Woof at the Door book review
It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of mysteries.
And, I’ve also shared here before that I have a dream of one day writing my own mystery novel – with the protagonist solving the mystery by talking to animals.
I thought I was uniquely positioned to write this book. So, imagine my surprise when I found out that someone had already beaten me to the punch!
Surely, she didn’t get the process like I do, I thought. We’ll just see if she does justice to the skills and nuances and intuitive tools and messages from the animals (like I would), my ego shouted.
Well, she did.
Laura Morrigan crafted a completely absorbing, realistic, fun, exciting, nuanced book with a great plot and very real interesting characters (human and animal). Her deft touch with the inner challenges her protagonist faced with sharing her gifts mirrored many of my own and the messages from the animals rang true to me.
Not only that, but the characters and relationships and personalities of all involved were so authentic and realistic and true, I was swept up into the world of the novel and its heroine, Grace Wilde.
Eureka, she did it!
So, I’m not going to share any details other than to say that this is a great book on all levels and you must go read it!
Even better is that it is the first in a series (3 published so far), so we have more great books to look forward to.
If you read it, please leave a note in the comments here and share your thoughts about the book.
Even if you don’t read the book, I hope you will share your experience with getting beaten to the punch. What was your dream? Who beat you to it? How did you react?

Just ordered the book – I’m sure I’ll like it, right up my alley. HOWEVER, I still think you should try one of your own. Your experience is so rich, that I think you could put your own spin on it and come up with something really spectacular. So don’t give up on your idea!

Thanks, Melinda!
My book will be different for sure and I won’t give up on my version when the timing is right. I think it will be so fun to write a mystery! I’ll keep you posted…

Cara, last night and this morning I have been exploring your websites and absorbing your blog posts– so much fun and interesting stuff– THANK YOU!! I havn’t read this book yet but now will look for it. A few years ago, reading the long and fabulous novel “Horse Heaven” by Pulitzer prize winning author Jane Smiley, I was thrilled to find that she included an effective animal intuitive as a character, whose insights made an important difference.

Thanks, Susan! I’ve just put a hold on Horse Heaven at my local library and can’t wait to read it! Thanks for the recommendation! I hope you like Wolf at the Door!
